Chance to WIN up to $25,000.00

2014 Could be your lucky year! Give our kids a winning chance and make them the big winners of the year!

Cost: $100.00 Per Ticket

Drawing: Friday, June 13, 2014 at 7:00pm at the All School Pool Party. Winner does not need to be present to win.

TO DATE WE HAVE RAISED $6,000.00!!!!

Dear Coleman Families,

Please accept this invitation to join our first Coleman H.S.A Ultimate 50/50 Raffle! There will only be 500 ticketsfor sale. To date we have only sold 60 tickets! This will be the biggest fundraiser of the school year, pending participation. We are hoping to raise close to $25,000.00 for both essential activities and enrichment programs for our school and students. The H.S.A. spends $7,000 a year on assemblies/workshops for the children and would like to continue funding these programs. We also subsidize $6,500 for field trips for all grades. All proceeds to benefit Coleman School. The Coleman H.S.A. is a non-profit organization that needs to raise $22,000.00 a year to operate successfully. The money we raised contributes to the maintenance of high quality education, weekly communication between parents, teachers and students, and selecting diversified programs and assemblies. This allows each child to experience something new each year.

We hear you! The H.S.A is trying something new this year. In the past, parents have stated that they would prefer to write a check or that the cost of an adult social was too much for one evening. The 50/50 raffle replaces our adult social and is the "BIG" fundraiser of the school year.

To purchase a ticket, print the Ultimate 5050 Order Form and return to the bin marked "50/50" in our school lobby. Please make checks payable to "Coleman H.S.A". We are also offering payment by Credit Card on our website and in person. Please go to to pay by credit card. There is a 3.00 service charge to process payment by credit card. Your paid ticket(s) will be mailed to you. Please contact Amy Martin @ if you have questions.

Amazon will donate 0.5% of the price of your eligible Amazonsmile purchase to Coleman H.S.A.

New Kindergarten Registration Process

Kindergarten Placement Process

The sequence of steps for kindergarten placement is being accelerated this year. Following registration, each child's school placement will be determined through a process that seeks to balance enrollment figures across the four elementary schools, taking into consideration the presence of siblings. Families will be notified of their child's school assignment by March 27, 2014.
Dates for parent Orientation and student "Round-Up" have also been moved up. Each elementary will host incoming Kindergarten families on April 2, 2014.
Please save the date. Parents will visit their assigned school for a brief Orientation and the children will attend a "Round-up" session in the Kindergarten classrooms. Information regarding time and place for these events will be included in the March letter.
The elementary principals, along with the Kindergarten teaching staff, will utilize their expertise to establish the most appropriate grouping of students for morning and afternoon placement. To that end, family requests for placement will not be considered. Parents will be notified of their child's class placement on April 12, 2014. Expediting the process in this way should provide families sufficient time to make individual arrangements for childcare or enrichment opportunities if they desire.
Interested families will also be able to register for the Glen Rock Community School's Kindergarten Plus enrichment program at the time of kindergarten registration. Kinderplus Registration Link

Glen Rock Library Spring Story Times

The 2014 five week Spring Story Time Session for children from ages 3 to Kindergarten-age will be offered on Wednesday mornings beginning on April 8th. Three-year-olds will meet from 9:30 to 10:00 and Fours, Fives and Kindergarten age children will enjoy their program from 10:30 to 11:00. Please register for this free program in the Children’s Room.

Plant a Tree

Glen Rock 2nd to 4th graders are invited to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day with a special program presented by the Glen Rock Arboretum on April 24th from 4:00 to 5:00.

Co-chairs of the Education Committee of the Arboretum, Diane Schlegel and Lucy Malka, will share the book Why Would Anyone Cut Down a Tree. Children will do a nature craft and plant a seedling provided by the Arboretum and the Glen Rock Shade Tree Committee. The seedlings will go home for nurturing and may then be planted at the Arboretum or at a spot of the family’s choice.  Please register for this program in the Children’s Room.

Recycled Art Projects

Children’s Librarian, Trisha Fishelman, is happy to announce that Glen Rock children and families will have several opportunities to celebrate April as National Recycling Month. On Tuesday, the 22nd from 3:30 to 5:30 2nd to 4th graders are invited to work together using 100’s of recycled bottle caps to create large animals, butterflies and designs to display in the Children’s Room. The same project will be offered to Kindergarten to 1st graders on Wednesday, the 23rd from 3:30 to 5:00. Families can make a take-home bottle top design on Wednesday, the 23rd from 6:30 to 8:30. Our monthly Crafty Story Time for 3 year-olds & up on Friday, the 25th at 12:45 will use recycled CD’s to make an adorable mouse project. Please sign up for these programs in the Children’s Room.

Activity Story Times

Glen Rock children ages 3 and up are invited to attend Friends supported Spring story times on Fridays from 12:45 to 1:30. Play Dough Story Times on April 11th and May 16th  invite children to enjoy a few stories and then dig into soft homemade play dough for a relaxing session of creativity. Children’s Librarian, Trisha Fishelman, notes that playing with dough is a great way to develop and strengthen the finger and arm muscles that are important as children begin to write and cut with scissors.

Crafty Story Times include a make-and-take project.  On April 25th recycled CD’s will be transformed into adorable mice and on May 9th Mother’s Day and flowers will be the theme. Registration is required for these programs.

Peter and the Wolf

Glen Rock families with children ages 5 and up have a very special opportunity to enjoy a performance of Prokiofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” performed by members of the NJ Symphony Orchestra at the Library on Saturday, May 3 at 2:00 or at 3:30. Featuring instruments of the woodwind family – the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and French horn, the quintet demonstrates not only how well the instruments play together, but also what makes them each unique. Please register for this Friends sponsored program in the Children’s Room.
