Coleman School is fortunate to have a very active, supportive and generous parent organization.  The H.S.A supports Coleman in a variety of ways with more than forty committees such as Book Fair, Cultural Enrichment, Character Education, Great Book Giveaway and a School Wide Fair. Together we can make a difference, and all parents are encouraged to participate in any way they can.

The H.S.A. has a new meeting schedule and time for 2013-2014. Our day meetings will now begin at 8:45 am and end at 9:45 am and our evening meetings will continue to begin at 7:30 pm and end at 8:30pm. The new meeting schedule can be found on our Calendar Page . Going forward the H.S.A. will only have 5 general meetings per year instead of 10.

 

 

The Coleman H.S.A. is excited to announce Conference Calling for our meetings. We will now offer parents the opportunity to call in and join our meetings. This is not a substitute for attending a meeting just another way to join us and find out what is happening at our school and around the district. School Tool Box
 

 

Dear Parents,

We are happy to announce that once again the HSA is partnering with "School Tool Box" to sell prepackaged school supplies for the new school year.

The ordering time frame is May 19 - June 15th.

"School Tool Box" includes the whole list of supplies needed for each grade level selected and approved by the teachers at Coleman school. The boxes will be directly delivered to you child's classroom for the first day of school.

"School Tool Box" brings you the convenience of not running from store to store to find all the supplies at a negotiated discount.

Did your child have a folder that did not hold up over the school year and needed to be replaced, taped, stringed? This school year "School Tool Box" replaced all plastic folders ordered within the program. Furthermore more sturdy folders will be supplied in the 2014/15 school year and "School Tool Box" is working with the Vendor of the folders to improve the product.

This year "School Tool Box" is offering an additional program called"Teacher's Wish List". Teacher's from our school will be able to specify items from over 1,200 items that they wish to use in your child's classroom next year (similar to a baby or wedding registry). After you purchased a school tool box you will be prompted to view the list and can purchase items of the list to support your child's teacher(s) if you wish.

This year all orders are to be placed online. This is the policy from SchoolTool Box.

Register or log in at www.schooltoolbox.com. If you purchased a box before your child should already be listed. Update their grade information to ensure the right tool box is being ordered. If you are new to the program or want to include additional siblings click on add a child. Type in Clara E. Coleman school and our school will appear in the list. Enter name and grade information for the fall. Click on buy boxes....

 in your child’s elementary school experience and become

 part of the Coleman Community. We have opportunities for

 people who want to be actively involved, at all levels of time

commitment.  This year, we’re looking for volunteers to

 Chair and “lend a hand” to specific committees. Even if

you’ve never “chaired” a committee, the HSA will help!

New Kindergarten Registration Process

 

Kindergarten Placement Process

The sequence of steps for kindergarten placement is being accelerated this year. Following registration, each child's school placement will be determined through a process that seeks to balance enrollment figures across the four elementary schools, taking into consideration the presence of siblings. Families will be notified of their child's school assignment by March 27, 2014.
Dates for parent Orientation and student "Round-Up" have also been moved up. Each elementary will host incoming Kindergarten families on April 2, 2014.
Please save the date. Parents will visit their assigned school for a brief Orientation and the children will attend a "Round-up" session in the Kindergarten classrooms. Information regarding time and place for these events will be included in the March letter.
The elementary principals, along with the Kindergarten teaching staff, will utilize their expertise to establish the most appropriate grouping of students for morning and afternoon placement. To that end, family requests for placement will not be considered. Parents will be notified of their child's class placement on April 12, 2014. Expediting the process in this way should provide families sufficient time to make individual arrangements for childcare or enrichment opportunities if they desire.
Interested families will also be able to register for the Glen Rock Community School's Kindergarten Plus enrichment program at the time of kindergarten registration. Kinderplus Registration Link


 

 

Scrip Orders are due on WEDNESDAY,
Shop with Scrip this holiday season. Scrip cards are wonderful gifts for teachers, coaches, instructors, service providers, family, friends, babysitter, neighbors or the person who has everything!
 
For this holiday season ONLY we are offering Scrip cards for purchase. Please fill out Scrip Order Form and return to the school lobby box marked ("SCRIP"). Please make all checks payable to Coleman H.S.A. or follow the online directions below.

 

What is Shop with Scrip?

Scrip is fundraising while you shop: With each purchase, our school earns cash rebates that can quickly add up. The money raised from Scrip is used to fund field trips, assemblies, books, author visits and number of school related items. Every dollar counts with Scrip.

BOX TOP COLLECTION

An easy way to help the school all year. Boxes from participating supermarket items have a small "Box Tops For Education" coupon on it. Clip the coupons and periodically send them into school with your child. Prizes are given monthly to the grade who collects the most Box Tops that month.

Our Village Fresh chefs have put together a menu that is healthy, tasty, and visually appealing. Pomptonian sources high-quality ingredients and infuses healthy options into kid-appealing meals. Our all-natural selections contain no antibiotics, preservatives, hormones, or nitrates. We use only Boar's Head deli products on our deli sandwiches and salads. All meals are prepared fresh each day right in Glen Rock.

Library Events

Glen Rock Library Spring Story Times

The 2014 five week Spring Story Time Session for children from ages 3 to Kindergarten-age will be offered on Wednesday mornings beginning on April 8th. Three-year-olds will meet from 9:30 to 10:00 and Fours, Fives and Kindergarten age children will enjoy their program from 10:30 to 11:00. Please register for this free program in the Children’s Room.

 

 

Activity Story Times

Glen Rock children ages 3 and up are invited to attend Friends supported Spring story times on Fridays from 12:45 to 1:30. Play Dough Story Times on April 11th and May 16th  invite children to enjoy a few stories and then dig into soft homemade play dough for a relaxing session of creativity. Children’s Librarian, Trisha Fishelman, notes that playing with dough is a great way to develop and strengthen the finger and arm muscles that are important as children begin to write and cut with scissors.

Crafty Story Times include a make-and-take project.  On April 25th recycled CD’s will be transformed into adorable mice and on May 9th Mother’s Day and flowers will be the theme. Registration is required for these programs.

Parking Reminder
This is a reminder that parents picking up Kindergarteners must use parking spaces around the loop or on the street. Parking in the staff lot to pick up or drop off kindergarteners is prohibited. The Police Department has granted permission for parents to park adjacent to the yellow curb in the traffic loop at dismissal time to pick up morning kindergarteners; however, you may not leave your car unattended at any time. This is a fire zone and you will be ticketed
Parking in front of the school, in the staff lot or in front of the angled spaces is prohibited at any time. Do not drive through the parking lot at any time to pick up or drop off your child. This is for staff access only.
Please be certain every caregiver who transports your child to and from school knows and understands the procedures. They are in place for the safety of our entire school community.
